Duke of York

If you are looking for a bar with great views of the harbour, head over to the East side of town, and at the end of the cobbled streets you will find the Duke of York, Church Street. Situated at the bottom of Whitby's 199 steps that lead to the Abbey, the Duke of York is the perfect establishment to re-hydrate you after the strenuous climb to the abbey. The Shambles

The shambles bar was originally a Burberrys factory but has been recently converted into a stylish venue. It is great if you are looking for comfy sofas to chat with friends over a bottle of wine, or a busy bar with a great atmosphere on a Saturday night. For further information ring (01947) 600306.

The Elsinore

The original 'goth friendly' pub in Whitby is the Elsinore, Flowergate. This pub is still popular with Goths today, and is the place to be on Whitby Goth Weekends. With occasional live bands and a cosy feel, the Elsinore is a must for all Goths and beer lovers alike. Tel. (01947) 603975

The Little Angel

Situated near the Elsinore, the Little Angel is another pub that is a favourite haunt of Goths on Whitby Goth Weekends. This pub is a popular place for Goths to meet. With a generous bar area, the little Angel boasts plenty of space for a group gathering.

The Tap and Spile

The Tap and Spile on New Quay Road is an authentic pub serving real ales and a cosy atmosphere. The pub often has live music, to suit a variety of tastes, especially if your taste is folk music. This pub is very popular in Whitby's folk week. The bar offers smoking and non-smoking area and smaller rooms that are more private.

Rosie O Gradys

This bar in the centre of town is a popular weekend night spot as it is one of the few bars in the town with a late licence. The pub has three rooms, each catering for different tastes. Rosie O Gradys also serves fresh, home cooked meals. Accommodation is available at the George hotel, with 21 rooms available in the hotel above the bar. It is an ideal location, very central to town.

Middle Earth Tavern

Calling all Lord of the Rings fans! The Middle earth Tavern is a 17th century former sea captains house, which has been transformed into one of the quaintest pubs in the town. Situated opposite the harbour, this pub offers a quiet, friendly atmosphere to both eat and drink. Bed and Breakfast facilities are available.

The Angel

The Angel hotel on New Quay Road, is a favourite night spot in the town. Expect to queue, as this bar has a late license which means it is very popular with residents and tourists alike. It is part of the nightclub Laughtons, and has an in-house DJ and (small) dance floor.

The Wellington

This traditional pub hosts sports events from sky sports and premier plus. The bar also hosts live music and disco nights. It is situated on Wellington Road in the centre of town. They serve food during the day which is traditional pub grub. This bar is a must for all sports fans.
